Agrexco

Carmel Agrexco is a partially state-owned Israeli exporter responsible for the export of a large proportion of fresh Israeli produce, including 60-70% of the agricultural produce grown in Israel’s illegal settlements in occupied Palestinian territories (OPT). The company profits from Israel’s illegal colonial settlements and the theft of Palestinian land and water resources in the OPT in violation of the IV Geneva Convention and provides an economic incentive for the continuation of Israel’s unlawful regime of occupation, apartheid and colonisation (link) over the Palestinian people.

As per the 2004 ruling of the International Court of Justice on the illegality of the Apartheid Wall, states bear a legal obligation to discourage business relations which contribute to the maintenance of the illegal situation created by Israel – including relations with Carmel Agrexco.

Carmel Agrexco products originating from settlements have been routinely mislabelled and submitted alongside papers claiming that they originate inside the Green Line in an attempt to have them qualify for preferential customs treatment under the EU-Israel Association Agreement. The EU Court of Justice has ruled that settlement produce should not qualify for such preferential treatment(link).

Campaigns all over the world, but especially in Europe, have forced a number of supermarkets to examine their relationship with Carmel Agrexco.
