In July 2010 Brisbane, Australia BDS activists launched a campaign against the Israeli Seacret Dead Sea cosmetics company. The Seacret’s website boasts that its collection of skincare products are “extracted from the Dead Sea”, this makes the company directly complicit in stealing Palestinian natural resources in the Occupied Territory of the Palestinian West Bank and a direct beneficiary of Israel’s illegal practices.

The Seacret boycott campaign aims is to highlight the apartheid practices of the Israeli state that restricts access to the Dead Sea with checkpoints, Israeli only roads and closed military zones. Flyers are regularly distributed to shoppers informing them of the illegal practices of the Israeli state and the apartheid policies it applies specifically around the Dead Sea area.

Since the launch of the campaign activists have targeted outlets throughout the city of Brisbane and the campaign has spread to other cities in Australia and New Zealand. On a number of occasions activists have successfully closed down Seacret stalls.

The latest Flash Mob is inspired by a popular music anthem and the lyrics reflect the three demands of the BDS campaign:

1. Ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the Wall
2. Recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and
3. Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194.
