Flowing though Türkiye: Covert oil shipments to genocidal Israel revealed

The BDS movement calls for urgent action to stop fueling Israel’s ongoing genocide against Palestinians.

In May 2024, Türkiye announced it was suspending all imports and exports with Israel, citing the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In August 2025, it announced its severing of economic and trade ties with Israel, closing its airspace to Israeli aircraft and banning Israeli ships from docking at Turkish ports. Palestinians warmly welcomed both Turkish accountability measures.

However, 57 shipments of crude oil - totalling nearly 47 million barrels of oil have been exported to genocidal Israel by Azerbaijan through the Turkish port of Ceyhan since Türkiye began imposing trade restrictions in 2024, a new investigation by the Palestinian Youth Movement, Energy Embargo for Palestine and Progressive International reveals.

The report identifies vessels involved in covert energy transfers, most of them managed by the Greek firms Kyklades Maritime Corporation and Thenamaris Management Inc. The main culprits are Azerbaijan, the primary state supplier of oil to Israel, and British energy giant BP, the majority owner and operator of the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline transporting oil to the port of Ceyhan.

It also reveals that shipments are concealed by disabling vessel tracking systems and manipulating shipping data, undermining international efforts to enforce the embargos.

In 2025, Israel's imports of Azerbaijani crude jumped 31% from 2024, hitting a three year high. Azerbaijan supplies roughly 40% of Israel's oil, which is then refined for use by, among others, the Israeli military and illegal settlements, fuelling and enabling Israel's atrocities.

As Israel continues to kill Palestinians under the guise of “ceasefire,” we must stop the fuelling of genocide.

The Turkish embargo is critical to cutting off a major supply route, and imposing pressure to stop the less visible phase of the slaughter.

The BDS movement calls for immediate action to enforce the May 2024 Turkish trade embargo against Israel:

  • Block the vessels and shipping companies identified from transporting shipments from Türkiye to Israel.
  • Investigate the embargo violations and publish information about all vessels and corporate entities implicated, along with the steps to stop these violations and hold those responsible accountable.
  • Produce, publish and implement new protections to prevent future covert shipments and to ensure full enforcement of the trade embargo against Israel.

BDS Türkiye has called on the Turkish people to pressure their government to enforce a complete trade and energy embargo against genocidal Israel, and to stop the shipment of crude oil to it from Ceyhan. BDS Türkiye has also urged port workers at Ceyhan Port to prevent the flow of oil reaching Israeli ports, and to prevent ships transiting fuel to Israel from docking at Turkish ports.

Israel’s genocide against Palestinians has not stopped, and neither will we.

Escalate BDS pressure now.
