The article is not only about the right to BDS. It also discusses how international human rights law has, in general, been rendered meaningless and even oppressive. It uses the example of the BDS movement to show that, nevertheless, there is still a way to utilize its progressive potential.

The anti-boycott law passed by the Israeli Knesset in July was aimed at slowing down the global boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement targeting Israel for its violations of international law.  But the Palestinian-led BDS movement, both inside and outside Israel, has showed no signs of slowing.  The most recent victory the movement is claiming is the http://www.globes.co.il/serveen/globes/docview.asp?did=1000

Free speech in Israel was dealt a severe blow this month when the country’s Parliament passed antiboycott legislation that targets individuals or organizations publicly calling for a boycott against Israel or any area under its control.

A New York Times editorial has described Israel's government as "determined to crush" the BDS movement and says that Israel has been "seriously tarnished" by the new boycott law.

The editorial states:

Israel’s reputation as a vibrant democracy has been seriously tarnished by a new law intended to stifle outspoken critics of its occupation of the West Bank.

The law, approved in a 47-to-38 vote by Parliament, effectively bans any public call for a boycott — economic, cultural or academic — against Israel or it
