In waging a ruthless, criminal war of aggression against the people of Iran, the Israel-US genocidal axis is escalating its attempt to impose a might-makes-right order that threatens humanity at large. Given Israel’s unprecedented status as the world’s most rogue state, due to its livestreamed genocide in Gaza, this war must be seen in the context of the desperate effort to rehabilitate Israel’s regime of settler-colonialism, apartheid and genocide by the colonial West, led by the US self-appointed emperor.
The massacre of at least 165 Iranian schoolgirls and their teachers, largely ignored or sanitized by the genocidal western media and its typical racism and dehumanization towards people of color, exposes the real objectives of this aggression by two rogue nuclear powers. Israel, supported by the Trump regime, wants to divide Iran and destroy its people’s cohesion and resilience, as has been its agenda in Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria, among other states that it has targeted in the region.
The entire Israeli Zionist political spectrum, supported by powerful US far-right Jewish and Christian Zionist groups, is now pushing for a “Greater Israel” that would encompass parts of Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia– not just Palestine, Lebanon and Syria. As prominent US economist Jeffrey Sachs has said, the main reason behind this attack is to secure “Israel’s regional hegemony,” which also feeds US imperial attempts at global hegemony. To him, it reflects Israel’s massive influence on US policymaking in the region.
Resisting these hegemonic designs, the peoples of our region insist on their inalienable right to self-determination–their right to choose their political system and determine their destiny.
The Netanyahu-Trump axis is waging this all-out war first and foremost on the people of Iran. Under the fog of war it also escalates its now less visible but still ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people and its brutal ethnic cleansing and annexation in the West Bank. Simultaneously, this axis is also waging wars of aggression on the peoples of Lebanon - killing more than 30 Lebanese people in less than 24 hours - and Syria, with almost daily death and destruction.
Given US threats against the peoples of Cuba, Greenland, Venezuela, among others, hardly anyone is safe from this might-makes-right descent to the abyss. This demands a global wave of unity in the face of brutality to promote just peace in the face of imperial greed, and upholding international law in the face of the imperial “Board of Peace.”
This Netanyahu-Trump dominated organ is intended to replace the UN and to destroy the international legal system to avoid being jailed for life for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. It only serves the empire, Israel, and the military-energy-tech-finance oligarchs and their large business interests that benefit from endless wars, securitization, and colonization.
Let’s escalate BDS pressure to end complicity in Israel’s genocide and apartheid while building the broadest possible intersectional coalitions to save humanity from this race to the bottom.
