Today, as the world observes the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, we stand not only in mourning, but in urgent demand for justice.
Nowhere is this day more tragically embodied than against Palestinian children in Gaza, where Israel's ongoing and livestreamed genocide has resulted in the mass killing of Palestinian children at a scale without precedent in recent history. Just one month into Israel’s genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians, the UN Secretary General António Guterres warned Gaza is “becoming a graveyard for children.” Yet, almost 20 months later, the UN and many states have failed to act and impose any meaningful sanctions on Israel. Tens of thousands of Palestinian children have been killed by Israeli forces since October 2023, including thousands who remain missing under rubble. These are not numbers, they are names, faces, futures extinguished with impunity.
This is the largest massacre of children in the 21st century, carried out in full view of the so-called “international community.” Schools, hospitals, shelters, spaces that should offer sanctuary, have been repeatedly targeted by Israel. This is a war on children. A war on life itself.
What allows this slaughter to continue is global complicity. Israel’s genocide is enabled by the still ongoing flow of weapons, trade, funds, diplomatic shielding, academic and cultural business-as-usual, and racist, dehumanizing Israeli propaganda duly repeated by the leaders of the colonial West, particularly the US, Germany, UK, France, among others, and the heads of too many of its corporations and institutions. All of those should, and one day will, stand trial for their role in Israel’s war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide, not just Israeli political, military, corporate, judicial and other leaders. We shall never forget or forgive their criminality or complicity, and we shall insist on a new “Nuremberg.” Empty words are not enough. States must resolutely end complicity, not posture.
We call for immediate action:
- Targeted lawful diplomatic, trade, academic, sports and other sanctions on Israel to force it to stop its ongoing genocidal campaign.
- A comprehensive military embargo and energy embargo to halt the tools of destruction raining down on our children, women and men.
- Prosecution of war crimes through international mechanisms—no more exceptionalism, no more impunity.
On this day, let us not merely grieve innocent lives lost. Let us honor them with the courage to confront the systems and states that make such horror possible. Let this be the last generation of Palestinian children made into targets.
End the genocide. End the complicity.
