Palestinians need real global action in the form of accountability and ending complicity to support our struggle for liberation from Israel’s decades old regime of settler-colonialism, military occupation, apartheid, and genocide.
Naksa, meaning “set-back,” marks Israel’s 1967 violent conquest of the remainder of historic Palestine and the start of the brutal military occupation of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Israel ethnically cleansed approximately 400,000 Palestinians during the Naksa, almost half of them displaced for the second time, having originally survived the 1948 Nakba. Israel has persistently denied the inherent and UN-stipulated right of Palestinian refugees to return to their lands and receive reparations.
In September 2024, the UN General Assembly adopted with an overwhelming majority a resolution enacting the July 2024 Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Israel’s unlawful occupation and apartheid against Palestinians. For the first time in 42 years, the UNGA called for imposing sanctions on Israel and for terminating its entire occupation of Gaza and the West Bank by 18 September 2025. Yet, 8 months since that historic resolution, the vast majority of states have failed to act.
Israel’s genocidal regime is armed, funded and supported by its colonial Western allies, particularly the US, Germany, UK, France, Italy, among others, and the heads of too many of their corporations and institutions. All of those, not just Israeli political, military, corporate, judicial and other leaders, should, and one day will, stand trial for their role in Israel’s war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. We shall never forget or forgive their criminality or complicity, and we shall insist on a new “Nuremberg.” Empty words are not enough. States must resolutely end complicity, not posture.
To end Israel’s genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza and help us dismantle apartheid and achieve liberation, we call for immediate action:
- Targeted lawful diplomatic, trade, academic, sports and other sanctions on Israel to force it to stop its ongoing genocidal campaign.
- A comprehensive military embargo and energy embargo to halt the tools of destruction raining down on our children, women and men.
- Prosecution of war crimes through international mechanisms—no more exceptionalism, no more impunity.
